It’s been about four weeks since we’ve arrived and started working on our internships and so far everything has been running very smoothly. Our work has involved a good deal of walking in the hot and humid weather, and my legs are sore, but meeting with the families has made each hike well worth the temporary pain. Although the language barrier makes it difficult to communicate with the families, friendly exchanges of smiles and waves have gone a long way. The Haitian teams have also been wonderful to work with. It’s been fun learning each other’s languages and laughing over minor miscommunications. Whether it’s bonding over eating freshly picked mangos or sitting under the shade of trees during hiking breaks, Evans, Kate, and I have been able to form great friendships with our colleagues. It’s hard to believe that we only have a few more weeks here, time seems to be going so quickly!
